University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo alumni Aaron Ouchi received the prestigious Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship to attend a two-year graduate program at the University of Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan beginning October 2010.

The University of Ryukyus is one of 42 universities providing graduate-level English language programs for international students through the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Only 10 students were accepted to the University of Ryukyus’ Graduate School of Engineering and Science’s Masters Program for Okinawa International Marine Science in 2010. Ouchi is one of seven who was awarded the Monbukagakusho Scholarship; he will be conducting coral reef research with a chemistry and biology focus during his tenure in Okinawa.

As an undergraduate student, Ouchi was a math and science tutor with the Upward Bound program, and a Global Education Leader with the Center for Global Education and Exchange.
