William “Bill” G. Chismar has been appointed interim dean of Outreach College effective October 1 at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Chismar is associate dean for academic affairs and a professor of information technology management in the Shidler College of Business.
He replaces former Outreach College Dean Peter Tanaka, who has retired after 32 years of service to the campus.
Chismar holds doctorate, master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Palolo resident has won numerous awards in his academic career, including the UH Presidential Citation for Meritorious Teaching.
“Outreach College is central to the future of how Mānoa serves the state of Hawai‘i through its summer programs and neighbor island programs, the use of distance education technology, and through non-credit courses and community programming,” said Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Reed Dasenbrock. “We are fortunate that an experienced administrator like Bill Chismar is willing to lead Outreach College as we address all of these opportunities and challenges.”
