School of Architecture Presents Informational Open Houses

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa‘s School of Architecture presents its informational open house on Sunday, October 13 and Sunday, October 20, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The open house is an opportunity for faculty, staff, students, and the general public to tour the facilities and learn more about the program and what it has to offer.

The open house will feature exhibits the "2002 American Institute of Architects Student Design Awards," "Hillside Design in China," and "Sustainable Design."

Participants will also have a chance to tour the school and take a look at various items of interest including the Heritage Center directed by associate professor Spencer Lieneweber, which represents the focus by the school into vernacular as well as historic and preservation architecture; Environmental Control Systems Laboratory directed by assistant professor Stephen Meder, which provides a setting for research and training in environmental design issues; Construction Process Innovative Laboratory directed by associate professor David Rockwood, which operates as the research and education center of the School exploring issues of new technology and collaborative, international design communication in the construction industry, focusing on the Asia Pacific region; and Geolabs-Hawaiʻi Hillside Design Laboratory directed by associate professor Gordon Tyau, which focuses on the design of appropriate foundation and structural systems for buildings on hillsides by providing opportunities for architectural students to explore the various issues of building with hillside conditions, and represents the efforts by the school to educate students about the importance of resolving site problems.
