Two students at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo have been awarded scholarships by the University’s Alumni and Friends Association. Erynn Tanimoto and Megan Venegas will each receive a scholarship totaling $1,500.

Students are selected based on academic merit and financial need. They must also be or have an immediate family member who is a UH Hilo alumnus.

Tanimoto graduated from Hilo High School and is currently a sophomore at UH Hilo majoring in art. Her ultimate goal is to become an accomplished graphic designer and owner of a graphics art and Web design business.

Venegas is a graduate of Waiakea High School and UH Hilo, where she earned her B.A. in biology and a minor in chemistry. She is currently a third-year student in the Pharm.D. program at the UH Hilo College of Pharmacy. Her goal is to specialize in pediatric pharmacy.

The UH Hilo Alumni Association has awarded a total of 19 scholarships since 2004, which are funded by two annual, signature events: the Distinguished Alumni and Service Awards Banquet and silent auction in the spring and the Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament in the fall. This year’s tournament is October 23rd at the Waikoloa King’s Course.
