Varroa mite management workshop to be held May 14

The UH Mānoa Honeybee Varroa Project and Poamoho Organic Produce are co-sponsoring a Varroa mite management workshop on Friday, May 14, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Poamoho Organic Produce in Waialua. Workshop participants will be introduced to organic methods to control Varroa mite populations. Topics will include drone trap removal, sugar dusting, thymol, formic acid and IPM techniques.
Featured speakers are Drs. Mark G. Wright and Ethel Villalobos of UH Mānoa’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources’ Department of Plant and Environmental Protection Sciences (CTAHR-PEPS), who lead the UH Mānoa Honeybee Varroa Project. Also lined up to make a presentation is Tyler Ito, CTAHR-PEPS, a graduate student studying the efficacy on drone removal on Varroa mite control.
The workshop is free, but registration is limited to the first 20 individuals. Deadline for registration is Monday, May 10.
Individuals attending the workshop will be required to provide their own personal protection equipment.
