The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes (CSAV) continues its series of free natural hazard public seminars this month with “Tsunami Hazards in Hawaiʻi” on Saturday, April 17, 9 a.m., in UCB 100. A special additional workshop for Big Island teachers will continue until 3 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Speakers include: Quince Mento, Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense; Don Thomas, Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes; Walt Dudley, UH Hilo Marine Science; and Gerard Fryer, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

Participants will learn how tsunamis form, why there are hours to prepare for some tsunamis but only minutes to evacuate from others, and what one can do to prepare for the next tsunami.

The last workshop in the series, Hurricanes, will be on Saturday, May 15.
