Third annual "Unconferenz" coming to Kapi'olani Community College

The “Unconferenz” program will begin in the cafeteria in the ʻŌhiʻa Building, where participants will help quickly build the day’s schedule. Concurrent sessions will then be held in the Kalia Building.

 

Registration is $25, and includes lunch and a t-shirt. To keep the program agile, attendance is limited to 100 people.

 

An “unconference” is a gathering where there’s no set agenda, no keynotes and where the attendees are the speakers. The topics are decided at the start of the day, and everyone is expected to drive the conversation. And in Honolulu, the “Unconferenz” remains one of the most prominent events of its kind.

 

Past events have covered topics as diverse as digital archiving, iPhone app development, Second Life, photography, and even motorized cat litter boxes. This year, suggestions include the Apple iPad and Google Buzz, cloud computing, and the future of news. But the agenda won’t come together until moments before the first session at 9 a.m.

“Unconferenz” is the brainchild of Burt Lum, a self-described “digital ronin” who has covered and participated in the local tech scene for nearly three decades.
