The East-West Center (EWC) will host a public presentation by President Hisashi Owada of the International Court of Justice on Thursday, February 18.  The event will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the East-West Center Gallery, Burns Hall, located at 1601 East-West Road.
 
His Excellency Hisashi Owada was appointed president of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague in 2009, following his service as a judge for the ICJ since 2003. The ICJ is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. Before being appointed to this post, President Owada served as president of the Japan Institute of International Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan, as well as Japan’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris and as Permanent Representative to the U.N. in New York. 
 
President Owada taught at the University of Tokyo for 25 years and at Harvard, Columbia, and New York University Law Schools. He is currently on the faculty of the NYU Global Law School and honorary professor at Leiden University in the Netherlands. He has authored numerous publications on international legal affairs. 

Co-sponsors of the event include the East-West Center, UH Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawai‘i Center for Japanese Studies, and Pacific and Asian Affairs Council.
