Patricia Bergin reappointed to Mauna Kea Management BoardUniversity of Hawaiʻi

HONOLULU — Patricia Bergin, a retired Department of Education teacher and administrator, has been reappointed to a second four-year term on the Mauna Kea Management Board by the University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents (BOR). Her reappointment is effective August 1, 2009, and her term runs through July 31, 2013.
Bergin retired from the Department of Education after serving a 33-year distinguished career. She has taught in public schools in West Hawaiʻi and Waimea on the Big Island, served as vice principal, principal and also as a district superintendent for East and West Hawaiʻi prior to becoming Hawaiʻi District Superintendent. Having been raised in the Keaukaha Hawaiian Homestead community on the Island of Hawaiʻi, Bergin is well aware of and knowledgeable about Native Hawaiian issues and concerns.
In addition to her dedication in serving on the Mauna Kea Management Board for the past four years, Bergin is active in the community serving on several non-profit boards. She presently is serving a fifth term as president of the Board of Directors for North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital.
The Mauna Kea Management Board is comprised of seven members representing Native Hawaiians, environment, education, commercial operators, astronomy, Department of Land and Natural Resources, and the general community. The chancellor of UH Hilo nominates individuals to the Mauna Kea Management Board and submits recommendations to the BOR for its consideration. Individuals may serve a maximum of three consecutive four-year terms.
