UH Manoa medical school raising money to help homeless

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) will host a fundraiser for the Hawaiʻi HOME (Homeless Outreach and Medical Education) Project, a non-profit corporation formed by JABSOM medical students. The event will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum.

Tickets for the fundraiser—which includes a wine tasting, dinner and a silent auction—cost $75 per person.

For the past five years, JABSOM medical student-volunteers run health-care clinics three times a week at four state-sponsored homeless shelters on Oʻahu. On holidays, the HOME project also plans special events for the homeless children at the shelters.

The John A. Burns School of Medicine is the most culturally and ethnically diverse medical school in the nation. Its mission is to train high quality physicians, biomedical students and allied health professionals for Hawaiʻi and the Pacific, and to lead research in areas of specific interest to our community and region. To date, 2,047 physicians have earned their medical degrees from JABSOM. Nearly half of the physicians practicing in Hawaii are graduates of the JABSOM's MD or residency program.
