University of Hawaii to conduct second test of emergency text message alert system on October 14University of Hawaiʻi

The University of Hawaiʻi will conduct a test of its emergency text message alert system called UH Alert on October 14 at 11:55 a.m. This test will involve all 10 UH campuses and include all faculty, students and staff who have registered to receive the alerts. The first initial test was conducted upon the launch of the system in February 2008.
The most recent data on those registered to receive alerts indicates that approximately 4,000 students and about 3,700 faculty/staff are signed up to get emergency text message alerts. UH Alert gives the university another channel to inform the students and staff about campus emergencies.
The UH Alert system will only be used in case of an immediate threat to safety on campus and be tested only once a semester to ensure that the system is functioning properly. All UH students, faculty and staff may register at any time by visiting www.hawaii.edu/alert.
Those registered before 4 p.m. prior to the day of the test should receive the test alert at the scheduled time. For anyone that registers, but does not receive the expected text message, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
