HONOLULU - The John A. Burns School of Medicine will hold its annual White Coat Ceremony for first-year medical students on Friday, August 4 at 6 p.m. at the Hawaii Prince Hotel in Waikiki.

Each of the 62 class members will be presented with a traditional white coat in the presence of family, friends and faculty. The white coat is a powerful symbol of both professional competence and human compassion.

The ceremony and oath of commitment to patient care remind the incoming students of the dedication needed to complete their medical education as well as underscore the responsibilities of the medical profession.

The entering class makes history because it includes 16 students of full- or part-Hawaiian ancestry — believed to be the largest number ever.
