HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i at Manoa's Colleges of Arts and Sciences are pleased to announce the Serving Heart benefit dinner on Saturday, June 24, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom (IV and V), at 5:30 p.m. Three special persons will be honored at the event:

Ramon K. Sy, a physician, international humanitarian, and founding member of the Aloha Medical Mission, a Honolulu-based charity, which provides free health care overseas and inHawai'i to address the needs of people whose health is challenged by poverty and access to proper medical care.

Nainoa Thompson, renowned navigator and sail master of the Polynesian Voyaging Society's double-hulled canoe Hokule'a, has inspired and led a revival of traditional arts associated with long-distance ocean voyaging in Hawaiʻi and throughout Polynesia.

The late Hideto Kono, a Nisei veteran and well-respected leader in business, government, and education embraced lifelong learning, cross-cultural understanding, and community service, and was admired for bringing out the best in others with his warmth, humility, integrity, and humor.

Each will receive Serving Heart, a civic character award, founded by Universal Values for a Democratic Society—Nisei Veterans Endowed Forum Series. The award honors individuals whohave made exceptional contributions towards improving community life and advancing humanity. The inaugural awards will be presented on this occasion. Proceeds from this event will benefit the forum series endowment fund.

Itsmission is to foster thoughtful discussions on values and their role in enhancing a democratic society by examining values from all perspectives and from people of all walks of life.
