Windward Community College co-sponsors 5th annual Windward Hoolaulea

KANEʻOHE, Hawaiʻi — Top island entertainment, ʻono food, unique local crafts , keiki activities, community exhibits and a host of special campus attractions will be part of the 5th Annual Windward Hoʻolauleʻa, Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Windward Community College in Kāneʻohe. The theme for the celebration is "Windward Hoʻolauleʻa — Spanning the Generations." The non-alcohol event is expected to draw more than 25,000. No coolers will be allowed. Admission will be free.

"Our goal is to showcase Windward Oʻahu and help people discover opportunities at the college and in the community," said chair Janis Chun. "This is a grassroots event for people of all ages."

Sponsored by Windward Community College and the Kāneʻohe Business Group, the event will be a community day of family fun that will include Hawaiian games, keiki rides and shows in the college‘s new Palikū Theatre, the high-tech Imaginarium, and Gallery ʻIolani. A storytelling corner for children of all ages will be provided by Read-to-Me International and the Honolulu Sunrise Rotary.

Among those in the entertainment line-up will be Na Hoku Hanohano award winners Raiatea Helm, Auntie Genoa Keawe and Hoʻokena as well as the Royal Hawaiian Band and the 3D‘s.

There also will be a used book and white elephant sale. Donations can be directed to Brian Richardson at 235-7338.

Additionally, twenty food booths will be available featuring an array of island favorites. Food vendors interested in participating can call Sandy Okazaki at 235-7361 by Aug. 15.

More than 40 crafters are expected with items ranging from clothes and jewelry to unique "made in Hawaiʻi" products. Call Linka Mullikin at 235-7422 for details.
