Peter Englert was appointed chancellor of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa on August 1, 2002 for a term of three years. His appointment agreement automatically terminates on July 31, 2005 unless the Board of Regents acts to extend the agreement. I have conducted an evaluation of Dr. Englert‘s performance, and based on that evaluation I will not recommend to the Board that it act to extend his appointment agreement. I have apprised the Board of my decision, and the Board has indicated to me its support for that decision.

Dr. Englert holds a tenured full professor position in the Hawaiʻi Institute of Geophysics and Planetology, to which he will return August 1, 2005, at an annual salary of $165,600. As is customary with new hires in the sciences, he will receive a "startup package" of research support funds of $100,000 per year for three years.
