Drosophila mushroom bodies are centers for learning and memory in insects (similar to the vertebrate hippocampus). The fly MB comprises five distinct axonal lobes - 3 medially-projecting lobes and 2 dorsally-projecting lobes that can be distinguished using genetically expressed GFP and immunohistochemically. In this image all of the lobes express GFP and one medial and one dorsal lobe express anti-Fasciclin II, an axon guidance cue involved in axon fasciculation. Image courtesy of Karen Bates, Zoology.
