To assist faculty in understanding the pedagogical tenets undergirding writing intensive courses, this page includes FAQs, the WI Hallmarks, and offers examples of Writing in the Disciplines at UHM. Against this backdrop, the procedure for applying for a W designation is presented, along with numerous pages of Teaching Support that can help faculty develop courses that will meet the requirements for the W designation. Links to local and online sites that support student learning through writing are included so that faculty may easily include them in online syllabi or in Laulima.

Tools for assessing students' learning in W courses are also included, as are links to publications in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, for those faculty who perceive an opportunity to publish on their work in the W course. Finally, our page includes a link to the W Board, composed of committed faculty and advisors from across the disciplines who review W proposals and assist faculty in meeting all the requirements.
