Folk Songs The UH Contemporary Music Ensemble, Thomas Osborne, director, presents a program of works inspired by folk songs and traditional instruments. Iranian-born composer Reza Vali is featured with two works on the program, both based on Persian folk songs, and guest artist Maya Hoover (mezzo-soprano) will join the ensemble on Luciano Berio's Folk Songs, a colorful collection of folk song settings around the world. Gagaku Moonviewing Concert Hawaii Gagaku Society, under the direction of Reverend Masatoshi Shamoto, will present a concert to celebrate the full moon at the Barbara B. Smith Amphitheater. Gagaku is the oldest living tradition of orchestral music in the world.
