Hawai’i favorites and UH faculty, soprano Rachel Schutz, pianist Jonathan Korth, and clarinetist James Moffitt, present an evening of traditional and unusual art song and chamber music from around the world.
They begin with Schubert’s iconic The Shepherd on the Rock, a piece that essentially started the genre of chamber music with voice. They’ll also introduce Hawai’i audiences to some jazzy Jack Gottlieb trios, as well as give the world premiere of Jeff Myer’s “The Hula Manō“, set to Hawaiian text. Paired with these trio pieces will be some hyper-romantic songs of Sergei Rachmaninoff, some lesser-known Scandinavian art songs by Grieg, Rangström and Sibelius, and finally Benjamin Britten’s epic Les Illuminations.
Tickets at the door: $12 general admission; $8 seniors, UH faculty/staff/students; $5 UHM music majors
