Ms. Kim’s recital will consists of Korean Art Songs—with four themes: Homeland, Seasons, Love, and Nature—ranging in style from Korean traditional to romantic Western melodic songs with Korean traditional instruments.
Hyeon Sim Kim is an alumna of Seoul National University in Korea (Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in voice) and the Manhattan School of Music in New York (Master’s degree in Vocal Performance). She is guest professor of voice at Music Department in Kyung Hee University, Seoul Korea. She has lectured at Seoul National University, Korea National University of Arts, Kun-Kuk University, and Sejong University in Seoul Korea.
She has performed eleven solo recitals in New York, Nashville, Seoul, and Pusan and appeared in numerous operas, including La Boheme (Mimi), L’Elisir d’amore (Adina), Carmen (Micaella), and Ryu Gwan Soon (Ryu Gwan Soon). Ms. Kim performed as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s St. Paul, Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Die Schoepfung, Bach’s Mass in b minor and in other concerts. She recorded two albums: Come Again! Sweet Love and The Grace of God. As a member of Korean Art Song Association and the Society of British-American Art Song, she has worked to introduce more Koran (English) song repertoires in US (Korea). She studied with Eun Hee Yang, Hwa Sook Kim, and Joan Patenaude-Yarnell.
Ms. Kim’s recital is presented by the University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa, Music Department and Center for Korean Studies, The United Korean Association of Hawaii, and Seoul National University Alumni Association.
