Arts in Conversation: LGBTQ+

Artists for Social Justice Concert

As we honor Honolulu Pride month and commemorate Trans Day of Remembrance in November, Artists for Social Justice celebrates the myriad ways that the LGBTQ+ community has intersected, enhanced, and shaped the arts. In this multi-disciplinary event, we highlight LGBTQ+ artists and activists of all types, and approach the issues that the community faces from many angles. We’ll be telling coming-out and transitioning stories, wrestling with the horrific effects of the AIDS epidemic, supporting youth as they discover who they are, fighting for equal rights, and of course, celebrating the “Love is Love” sentiment. And we’ll be doing this by featuring some of Honolulu’s finest artists and activists, including Kumu Hina, The Gay Men’s Chorus of Honolulu, members of Hawai’i Opera Theatre, GLSEN, and UH Mānoa faculty and students. This is an event that will truly celebrate, honor, and affirm the LGBTQ+ community, and show our gratitude and respect for their enormous contributions society at large.

Cosponsored by Music at Mānoa and Artists for Social Justice.
