2015 Hawai‘i Day of Percussion

UH Day of Percussion

Hawaii Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, Brigham Young University – Hawaii, and the University of Hawai‘i – Mānoa Music Department present a day of percussion, featuring clinics, solo and ensemble adjudication, and performances by six Hawaii school percussion ensembles.

Featured presenters include:

  • Dr. Lisa Rogers (Texas Tech University Professor of Percussion Studies)
  • Mr. Alan Shinn (Texas Tech University Professor of Percussion Studies)
  • Dr. Darren Duerden (BYU-H)
  • Mr. Robert Klieger (Milwaukee Symphony)
  • Mr. Jordan Schifino (Hawaii Symphony & UHM-Music)

Clinic Sessions

  1. Introduction to Percussion & Keyboard Techniques (Rogers & Shinn) – 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.
  2. Tahitian Drumming: A Method to the Madness (Duerden) – 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  3. Looping Improvisation (Klieger & Schifino) – 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

There will be performances (1:00 – 3:00 p.m.) by:

  • BYU-Hawaii Shaka Steel
  • University of Hawaii Percussion Ensemble
  • Jarrett Middle School Percussion Ensemble
  • Kahuku High School Percussion Ensemble
  • Niu Valley Middle School Percussion Ensemble
  • Hawaii Youth Percussion Ensemble
