Introducing Velma Kameoka, Interim Associate VC for Research

The Board of Regents approved the appointment of Dr. Velma Kameoka as the Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at UH Manoa. Prior to her current appointment and since 2005, she served as Director of the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) in the College of Social Sciences. She is also a professor in the Department of Psychology at UH Manoa.

Throughout her career, Dr. Kameoka’s research has focused on psychometric/measurement models and methodological issues underlying assessment of depression and related psychological disorders. Dr. Kameoka has an extensive research background in mental health disparities and, throughout her tenure at UHM, she has been an active principal investigator of sponsored projects focused on substance use, youth risk behaviors, mental health disparities among ethnocultural populations in Hawaii.
