HIMB’s cutting-edge coral reef research featured in film by The Economist

With the world’s corals at risk of extinction, scientists, led by Ruth Gates, director of UH Manoa’s Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology, are using cutting-edge technology to try to save these planetary treasures. Gates and other researchers at HIMB are featured in a film custom-developed by The Economist Films to open the World Ocean Summit in Bali February 22-24.

“We need to come together and think more creatively about what our science can do…We have got to start acting now if we have a hope of preserving and sustaining reefs,” said Gates.

The film was created with support from Blancpain.
