Outbound Students

Thank you for your interest in the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa (UHM) International Exchange Program. The information below is for UH Mānoa students going on exchange to another institution. Application materials should be turned in to the UHM International Exchange Coordinator no later than:

  • September 15 (for Spring semester exchanges beginning in January-April; it may be possible to extend this deadline for programs starting later than January)
  • March 1 (for Fall semester exchanges beginning in July-October)
  • March 1 (for Summer exchanges)

Please submit the following application materials:

  1. International Exchange Program Application [PDF]
  2. Typed, approximately 300-word personal statement addressing the following question: "Why is it important for you to participate in this international exchange program and what do you hope to gain and to contribute?"
  3. Two confidential letters of recommendation (preferably one from your academic advisor). Print out the Confidential Reference Form [PDF] and ask each person to return it to you in a sealed envelope OR to send it directly to the International Exchange Coordinator, PSB 205. In lieu of the form, letters are fine.
  4. UHM transcript and/or other college transcripts
  5. Evidence of financial ability to participate in the international exchange program (letter from your bank verifying your account balance, proof that you will be receiving financial aid or a scholarship, etc.) For information on your estimated expenses at the partner institution, see the International Exchange Coordinator.
  6. Photocopy of your passport identification page
  7. Two passport photos (additional photos may be needed depending on partner university requirements).
