International Exchange is one of the many ways the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s commitment to international education and understanding is demonstrated. Various academic units on the UHM campus, with the assistance of the UHM International Exchange Coordinator, maintain and support international exchange agreements with universities around the world.

International Exchange provides an opportunity for UHM undergraduate and graduate students to study overseas and also allows students from our overseas partner universities to study at UHM. An exchange may be for one or two semesters. Some of the exchange agreements are for students with specific majors, but most are open to any student. Participants are registered as full-time students at their home university while on exchange, pay their normal tuition to the home university and do not pay tuition at the host university. They are, however, responsible for travel costs, flight arrangements, housing and meals. The host university provides information on housing options.

A student exchange agreement with an overseas university can be proposed by any of the academic units on the UHM campus. Exchange agreements are always based on reciprocity, so the UHM academic unit must confirm that UHM students are willing to go abroad and that these students will benefit from the exchange.

Get Connected

Online International Exchange Group

Are you a current, former or future exchange student? You have an opportunity to connect more easily with others experiencing the same things as you by logging in to MyUH and joining the "International Exchange" group. You will be able to keep in touch with others as well as use the online group as a forum to receive and distribute information relevant to your experiences. This group is accessible only to exchange students and international students at UHM. The group can be found by following the link to "My Groups." In "My Groups," click on the "Groups Index" and then to "Mānoa." Under "Mānoa," you will find "International Exchange" on the list. Click on that, and there you will need to request to join, and provide a brief reason. Join now!

International Coffee Hour

Each semester, the International Exchange Program hosts a coffee hour for exchange students and students interested in exchange to get acquainted, share experiences and knowledge, and to provide useful information. Some coffee hours may include special programs by students. UHM faculty and staff are also invited. Coffee hours are generally Friday afternoons, unless there is a holiday. For a complete schedule of the coffee hours, contact Darrell Kicker at kicker@hawaii.edu.

Alumni

Reconnect and stay connected to UH Mānoa. Though you may have only spent a semester or two here in Hawai'i, help us keep the exchange going. The International Exchange Alumni website is being developed, and we would love your input.
