Title IX is a landmark federal civil rights that prohibits sex discrimination in education. Members of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa community, guests and visitors have the right to be free from all forms of sex/gender harassment, discrimination and misconduct, examples of which can include acts of sexual violence, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. All members of the campus community are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that does not infringe upon the rights of others.

Title IX Policy: to ensure Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge Departments comply with Title IX and to support the strong commitment of UH to educating students, faculty, and staff about Title IX, all Faculty, GTA and Lecturers must include these two statements in their syllabi:

Hawaiʻinuiākea recognizes the inherent dignity of all individuals and promotes respect for all people. Sex discrimination and gender-based violence will NOT be tolerated. If you have been the victim of sex discrimination or gender-based violence, we encourage you to report this matter or contact a confidential advocate. As a faculty member, I am interested in promoting a safe and healthy educational environment, and should I learn of any sexual misconduct, I must report the matter to the Title IX Coordinator, who oversees the University’s centralized review, investigation, and resolution process for reports of sexual misconduct, and also coordinates the University’s compliance with Title IX. Although the Title IX Coordinator and I cannot guarantee confidentiality, you will still have options about how your case will be handled.
