About

Katherine (Kat) Latham hails from Papakolea and is Hawai‘inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge Personnel Officer since 2009. She began working at the university in 2001 as a Program Coordinator on a HUD grant with Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies that served native Hawaiian communities Maunalaha and Papakolea.  Soon after, Kat became the center’s first Administrative Officer (AO).  A few years later, she shifted to become the AO for Ka Papa Lo’i o Kanewai and helped with its transition from a program under Hawaiian Studies to becoming a center within the newly created School of Hawaiian Knowledge in 2007.

Prior to working at the University of Hawaii, Kat worked in various capacities around the island.  After receiving her Associates in Legal Assisting in 1987, Kat worked in the Management Analysis Branch of the US Corps of Engineers at Fort Shafter. Later as a legal assistant with the Child Support Enforcement Agency she represented the State in administrative hearings on O’ahu, Kaua’i, and Maui.  Kat left her job as a Systems Administrator at the Honolulu Academy of Arts to pursue a bachelor degree in Justice Administration and later worked at non-profit organizations as an Office Manager at River of Life Mission, then as a Community Liaison for the Hawaiian homestead of Papakolea.
