Kawaihuelani Hawaiian Language Program offers unique opportunities for our students including:

Certificate in Hawaiian
Students who enroll in 15 credits of third and fourth year Hawaiian language courses may be eligible for a certificate in Hawaiian. To earn a certificate, students must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in all courses leading to a certificate, successfully complete HAW 301-302 (6 credits) and demonstrate fourthlevel language proficiency by enrolling in fourth-year Hawaiian language courses (9 credits).

BA in Hawaiian
The BA in Hawaiian is a 30 credit program. In addition to the 15 credits of required courses, Hawaiian majors must also enroll in a minimum of 15 credits of electives at least 12 of which must be selected from the Hawaiian language electives.

MA in Hawaiian
We offer a program of graduate study and research leading to a concentration in one of the three foci:
• Moʻolelo (Culture, History, Literature, and Performing Arts)
• Kālaiʻōlelo (Linguistics)
• Kumu Kula Kaiapuni (Hawaiian Medium Education Teacher Preparation)
