Hula Workshop with Kimo Keaulana

Event Details


“Hā’upu,” a hula noho kālā’au for Queen Emma, a companion chant to the mele “Kalalea”, a hula noho ‘ulī’ulī, will be taught by hula master Kimo Alama Keaulana. This mele recalls many of Kaua’i’s wahi pana west of Kīpū.  The chant is from the collection of Joseph Ilalaole.  A Kauaʻi mele kāhea will also be shared with everyone.  Participants will need to bring short kālāʻau.  No video recording will be allowed.

DATE: Saturday, August 6, 2016 (Malama- Hilinaehu, Mahina- Kūlua)

TIME: 8:15 – 8:45 AM sign-in; 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM workshop. Includes lunch break.

PLACE: Hanapēpē UCC Hall (Across from the Hanapēpē Library and Hanapēpē Fire Station) Link to map-

COST: $50.00 DONATION includes Eventbrite online payment fee, workshop materials, break refreshments and a lunch. Parking available in front of the church and the Hanapēpē Library.
