Student Housing Services at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa invites applications for the position of Residence Director. Located above the city of Honolulu in the beautiful Mānoa Valley on the island of O'ahu, UH Mānoa offers students and staff a unique opportunity to live in a blended suburban and urban area. The mission of Residential Life is to support the academic and personal success of our students through leadership development, residential learning programs, partnerships with parents & families, and connections with campus and community resources.
 
The RDs play a critical role in developing inclusive, welcoming communities which foster personal and academic success whilst demonstrating an appreciation and understanding of the host culture. Each RD is responsible for a student population of 350 – 810 in their assigned complex. Key responsibilities include: supervising 0-2 graduate level Assistant Residence Directors and 6-20 undergraduate/graduate Resident Assistants; selecting and training staff members; collaborating with the Housing Operations office to manage assigned facilities; coordinating with Housing Administration to manage occupancy of assigned facilities; serving as a conduct hearing officer using a restorative justice philosophy; participation in the Administrator On Call rotation which serves an on-campus population of approximately 4,000 students; collaborating with at least one Community Desk Manager; participating in late night programming events; advising one or more community council; chairing/co-chairing one or more departmental committee; intentionally supporting, developing, and maintaining Residential Learning Programs (RLPs); advocating for residents.
 
Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling, or a related field as well as previous full-time or graduate residence life experience. Well qualified applicants will have an understanding of non-traditional work hours within Residence Life as well as maintaining a presence in community. Residence Directors at UH are full time, live-in professionals. Residence Directors will be provided with a furnished one-bedroom apartment and meal plan in their assigned communities. Residence Directors may have one non-rent paying adult (spouse/domestic partner/guest) and any children or legal dependents living in their apartment during the employment period.
