Kahawai and Laulima

Hale Kahawai was built in 1964, and originally housed 140 women. “Hale Kahawai” means “house by the stream” in Hawaiian. After some re‐models, it now holds 156 residents and is a co‐educational facility.

Hale Kahawai is a 4-story building accessible by stairs. It is located at the entrance to Manoa valley.  Hale Kahawai provides a quiet and cool living environment, with quick and easy access to the Manoa Marketplace, a community library, recreation center, and a popular weekend open market.

Joanna Kim
Assistant Residence Director

Joanna has lived in nearly every region of the United States, including Alaska, where she graduated high school.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies, and is currently in a Master’s degree program in the same subject.
