Hale Kahawai was built in 1964, and originally housed 140 women. “Hale Kahawai” means “house by the stream” in Hawaiian. After some re‐models, it now holds 156 residents and is a co‐educational facility.
Hale Kahawai is a 4-story building accessible by stairs. It is located at the entrance to Manoa valley. Hale Kahawai provides a quiet and cool living environment, with quick and easy access to the Manoa Marketplace, a community library, recreation center, and a popular weekend open market.
Meet Our Staff:
Aloha and E Komo Mai,
My name is Kenny Lopez and I am the Residence Director for Hale Kahawai and Hale Laulima. I received my Bachelors from the University of California at Davis in Chicana/o Studies and Spanish Literature and my Masters in College Student Personnel for the University of West Florida. During my free time I enjoy exploring the beautiful island of Oahu, going on hikes, trying local restaurants, shopping and certainly playing a few games of volleyball every chance I get. Please stop by and introduce yourself and let me know I can help you make your time with us at UH- Manoa a great experience. Go Bows!!
