Dr. Robert Locke's New Book

Dr. Matthew Lauzon, who is currently studying abroad in Paris, attended a conference on November 8 at the famous intellectual Cafe Procope for the release of Robert Locke's latest book Confronting Managerialism: How the Business Elite and Their Schools Threw Our Lives Out of Balance.

A new book is available by Dr. Shana Brown

Shana Brown, the modern China specialist in the department, has just published Pastimes: From Art and Antiquarianism to Modern Chinese Historiography with University of Hawai’i Press.

 

New book released for Dr. Robert Locke

Dr. Robert Locke, an emeritus professor for the Department of History, has co-authored a new book, entitled "Confronting Managerialism: How the Business Elite and their Schools Threw Our Lives Out of Balance".

Erin Cozens awarded the Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching - Graduate Teaching Assistant

PhD candidate Erin Cozens has been awarded the prestigious Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching - Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for her World History Teacher Assistantship at the Mānoa campus. Congratulations on a fine achievement, Erin!

Sue Carlson awarded the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Service by a Civil Service employee

Sue Carlson, our Graduate Secretary, has been awarded the 2011 University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Service by a Civil Service employee.  Sue will be recognized at the Manoa Executive Team meeting and the UH Convocation ceremony in September.  Sue will also be a nominee for the 2011 Governor Award for Distinguished State Service.  Congratulations Sue, on a well-deserved achievement!

Professor Vina Lanzona awarded Kenneth W. Baldridge Prize

Professor Lanzona was awarded the Kenneth W. Baldridge Prize for her book, "Amazons of the Huk Rebellion", as announced at the annual Phi Alpha Theta conference on March 12, 2011.

 

Martin Thiry selected for Fulbright Award

PhD student Martin Thiry has been selected as a recipient for a Fulbright Award to assist his dissertation research in Indonesia.

Convocation Award Ceremony

Dr. Ned Bertz was honored at the Convocation Award Ceremony last week, with the presentation of his Regents' Medal for Excellence in Teaching by President M.R.C. Greenwood, Board of Regents Chair Howard Karr and Governer Linda Lingle - congratulations Dr. Bertz!

Dr. Robert McGlone's book "John Brown's War Against Slavery" finalist for Douglass Prize

Dr. McGlone's biography of John Brown was selected as a finalist for the Frederick Douglass Prize, with a jury decision expected in October.
