Scott Robertson, Director
Scott is an Associate Professor in the
Information and Computer Sciences Department
at the University of Hawaii.
He has a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology (Cognitive Science specialization)
from Yale University.
His research interests include
Digital government, e-Democracy and e-Participation,
social computing,
and natural language processing.
Bryan Semaan, Junior Researcher (post-doc)
Bryan has a recently minted Ph.D. from the
Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Science
at the University of California, Irvine.
His research lies at the intersection of the computer sciences and the social sciences. He studies how people both appropriate, and are shaped by, technology in their daily lives with the goal of better understanding how technology helps to shape our social world, and in turn, how our social world shapes technology and its use.
Sara Douglas
Sara is a Ph.D. student in the
Communication and Information Sciences program.
Sara has a B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics
from
Sonoma State University
and an M.S. in Human Factors and Information Design from
Bentley University.
She has several years of work experience
as a usability professional.
Misa Maruyama
Misa is a Ph.D. student in the
Communication and Information Sciences program.
Misa has an M.S. in Broadcast Journalism from the
Medill School of Journalism
at Northwestern University. She has been a reporter at KOB-TV and KRCR-TV.
She is interested in new media and journalism.
Alumni
Vivian Lik-Wai Cheng
Vivian received her B.S. from the Information and Computer Sciences Department at the University of Hawaii in Fall, 2011.
She worked with the HICHI lab in 2011 on
undertanding the organization of information on politicians'
Facebook sites.
Laura Jolly
Laura received her B.A. in Journalism from the University of Hawaii in 2010.
She worked with the HICHI lab in 2009 as part of
NSF's "Research Experience for Undergraduates" program.
Lisa Miller
Lisa is a Ph.D. student in the Information and Computer Sciences Department.
She is interested in robotics and machine learning,
and is currently a member of the
Machine Learning Group.
She worked with the HICHI Lab as a graduate research assistant in 2009 developing a social networking component of VotesBy.us.
Ravi Vatrapu
Ravi is an Associate Professor at the
Center for Applied Information and Communication Technology (CAICT)
at
Copenhagen Business School.
He has a Ph.D. from the
Communication and Information Sciences Program
at the University of Hawaii.
His research interests include cultural issues in socio-technical systems.
Ravi worked with the HICHI lab in 2008-2009 as a Junior Researcher (post-doc) studying online political information browsing and decision making.
Shaoxuan Zhang
Shaoxuan is currently a Software Engineer at
Superb Internet Corporation.
He has an M.S. from the the Information and Computer Sciences Department.
He worked with the HICHI Lab as a graduate research assistant in 2009 developing database and personalization components of VotesBy.us.
