Dr. Jim Shon is the Director of the Hawai‘i Educational Policy Center at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. Dr. Shon holds a B.A. in Music Education and a Ph.D. in Political Science. He taught English in the Peace Corps, worked on state programs to promote alternative energy and marine affairs, and served as a Hawai‘i state legislator. Additionally, Dr. Shon developed curriculum at the University of Hawai‘i’s Curriculum Research & Development Group, conducted policy research, and served as the Executive Director of the Charter School Administrative Office.
Shannon Hillman is the Educational Researcher for the Hawai’i Educational Policy Center. She holds a B.A/B.T in English and Drama from the University of New England and a Masters of Applied Linguistics from the University of Newcastle in Australia. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Educational Foundations with a specialization in Policy Studies from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Her work experience includes high school and university ESL teaching in both national and international settings and more recently interning for UNESCO’s Bangkok office.
