Dr. Jim Shon is the Director of the Hawai‘i Educational Policy Center at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. Dr. Shon holds a B.A. in Music Education and a Ph.D. in Political Science. He taught English in the Peace Corps, worked on state programs to promote alternative energy and marine affairs, and served as a Hawai‘i state legislator. Additionally, Dr. Shon developed curriculum at the University of Hawai‘i’s Curriculum Research & Development Group, conducted policy research, and served as the Executive Director of the Charter School Administrative Office.

Amy Sojot is the Education Researcher for the Hawai‘i Educational Policy Center. She holds a B.A. in Art History and the Visual Arts from Occidental College and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Educational Foundations at the University of Hawai‘i College of Education. Amy’s work experience includes the Hawai‘i State Legislature and mentoring for a non-profit after school program that supported at-risk youth.
