UHM faculty (instruction, research, administration and specialist) at Rank 3 or above and distinguished scholars from the community at large may be nominated to the graduate faculty. The graduate chair shall notify the Graduate Dean of new faculty hires and promotions.

Regular Graduate Faculty

Upon appointment, all tenure-track “I” and “R” UHM faculty at Rank 3 or above in departments with graduate programs become full regular members of the graduate faculty.

Cooperating and Affiliate Graduate Faculty

To nominate cooperating graduate faculty, the graduate chair shall send to the Graduate Dean a memo and a current curriculum vitae (CV) of the nominee. The memo should indicate the level (full or associate) of appointment being requested and contain a statement certifying that the nomination has the approval of the majority of the regular faculty in the graduate program.  To nominate affiliate graduate faculty, the graduate chair shall send to the Graduate Dean the Affiliate Faculty Nomination Form together with a current CV and a copy of the fully executed Personnel Notification Form (PNF).  For both cooperating and affiliate graduate faculty nominations, the nominee must possess the appropriate terminal degree.

Multiple Appointments

A faculty member may be appointed to the graduate faculty of more than one graduate program. However, no appointment may be at a level higher than the faculty member’s appointment in his or her home graduate program.
