Further Investigations: Climate and the Atmosphere

  1. The specific heat of liquid water is used to define the unit of heat, the calorie (the amount of heat necessary to raise one gram of water 1°C). Why do you think researchers uses water for their definition of the calorie?

  2. Using the concept of specific heat, investigate how people can save money on heating and cooling costs by using different construction materials for their home.

  3. Investigate the relationship between global climate change and extreme weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, and drought.
