Please join us for a colloquium titled “Navigating Village Planning, Zoning, Culture, Participation and Disasters Management? Nu’u and ‘A’ai o Alofau, A. Samoa” on March 22, 2017 from 12:00PM – 1:00PM in Saunders Hallʻs Room 116. The colloquium will be presented by Professor Luciano Minerbi, who teaches in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. This presentation will explain the pilot participatory planning process conducted in 2016 to engage village stakeholders to think about place-based management in the case of the common property regime in a Pacific Island. The focus is on planning, village and watershed zoning, and needed studies for water procurement, and natural hazard mitigations. Pertinent are the cultural aspects and the chiefly system of Fa’a Samoa.
