Hometown: Hawaii Resident,
Year/Program: Entered DURP Ph.D. program in Fall 2008
“Centered in Honolulu, Hawaii where East meets West, the DURP master’s and PhD programs offers students the opportunity to study and immerse themselves in a wide variety of unique and intriguing issues.”
Areas of Interest: As a DURP PhD student I’m primarily interested in two areas: marine spatial planning and related large-scale ocean & coastal planning processes as well as community-based natural resource management and institutional arrangements outside traditional state or market-based resource management approaches. Hopefully [after graduating] I’ll secure a position somewhere warm (preferably Hawaii), near the ocean, with consistent surf.
Brief Background, Path to Planning: I have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and a master’s degree in public administration, both from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
