Last week the Department of Urban and Regional Planning hosted a delegation from West Papua as part of the “Building Resilience Through Training” disaster management project. The USAID/OFDA funded project, under the direction of Professors Karl Kim and Dolores Foley, organized meetings with academics and local and national organizations. The delegation included University of Papua Rector Dr. Jacob Manusawai and faculty member Dr. Hendri Hendri; superintendent, West Papua Regional Disaster Management Agency, Derek Ampnir; and Charles Ham, coordinator, Disaster Response, Hope Worldwide.
During this visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, which strengthens the partnership between UHM and the University of Papuaand opens the future projects. There opens the opportunities for student exchanges and collaborative research projects.
