Pick a mature, healthy dog that is free of rabies.

Storage

Meat can be frozen for long storage.

Preparation

  • Hang upside down and slit the throat with a sharp knife to bleed out.
  • Pitch the dog with an ice pick.
  • Raze or shave off hair.
  • Cut open the carcass and remove the organs.
  • Cut carcass into desired cuts of meat.
  • Wash meat well before use.
  • Can be grilled, sautéed, stewed, or made into soup. (Karfung, 2002)

Dog

Dog is sometimes eaten in the Pacific. Traditionally, the animal is first fattened on a special diet including taro (Haden, 2009).
