Green Bean


Pick bean pods that are firm and crisp from dry plants. Avoid breaking stems or branches to allow new flowers to grow.


Keep unwashed in plastic bags and refrigerate.

  • Can be baked, blanched, boiled, steamed or sautéeduntil tender.
  • Can be added to soups, stews, or salads.

Green Bean

There are many varieties and names for green beans such as French beans, goa beans, mung beans, and string beans. The leaves are oval-shaped, and the beans may be round or have a flat pod that is green or purple in color (University of Illinois Extension, 2013).
