The PhD in Nutritional Sciences Program collaboration with the University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center (UHCC), John A Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) and faculty in Nutrition, Animal Science and Food Science and other faculty, in the home Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences allows for students to create a plan of study among three tracks. Students can attain a PhD in Nutritional Sciences in one of the following:
- Human nutrition (related to biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, community/global, disease prevention, clinical nutrition, culture [indigenous nutrition], epidemiology, nutrition and cancer)
- Animal science (related to nutrient utilization, physiology, disorders, growth, and aquaculture)
- Food science (related to food chemistry, engineering and processing, microbiology, safety, and functional foods)
Due to the breadth of degree programs available at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, students are encouraged to determine course plans that meet their desired program track in consultation with their Advisor and the Graduate Chair.
