Learning About Immigrants in Hawaii
By Macy Fillazar, Club Reporter – On January 7, 2018 the Lucky Clovers Youngers had a meeting and learned about the impact of the immigrants to our Hawaiian culture. We gathered at Kepaniwai in lao Valley and started with the game Jeopardy. The game included subjects relating to how the immigrants shaped the pidgin language and how each culture brought special foods and traditions. Our meeting started with preparing mochi cupcakes. Everybody had the chance to crack the egg using the egg cracker. We take turns learning how to measure sugar, vanilla and milk, stir and add our favorite colors. We put them in the baking pan– some made plain, some made swirls. Auntie Esther then baked them in the oven. While waiting for our mochi, we did our meeting where everybody was assigned with different job titles.
