Transitions to Teaching: CRDG, COE, and DOE Work Together

The College of Education (COE) and CRDG have teamed up with the Hawai‘i Department of Education (DOE) to address the shortage of mathematics and science teachers in Hawai‘i’s secondary schools. The five-year, federally-funded Transitions to Teaching program provides support for midcareer professionals and recent graduates in fields other than education to help them complete teacher training programs and attain teacher licensure. CRDG’s evaluation role is to determine what kinds of support these students need to reach their goals and to determine where these needs are being met. The goal of the project is to produce 100 licensed science and mathematics teachers. Staff members from CRDG’s Program Research and Evaluation (PRE) Section discuss Transition to Teaching project goals.
