Dr. Jinguang Zhang Receives NSF Grant

Dr. Jinguang “Andrew” Zhang received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support his research. The project, titled “Psychological and Behavioral Preparatory Responses to Male Aggressive Signaling,” examines how men and women cognitively, perceptually, and behaviorally respond to male speakers’ voice pitch in competitive situations. Voice Pitch Affects Perceptions of Social Influence

Dr. Jinguang “Andrew” Zhang and Dr. Jessica Gasiorek recently published an article in Communication Research, a flagship journal of the communication field, on the effects of males’ and females’ voice pitch on social influence. The researchers invited 37 pairs of previously unacquainted males and females who held opposing views on either lowering the legal drinking age or euthanasia to a lab to discuss their attitudes. Alumni Workshop a Major Success

The Department of Communicology hosted a successful workshop that featured Communicology alumni. Fourteen alumni acted as panelists and fielded questions from over 25 undergraduate students regarding how the principles learned in Communicology classes were applied in their respective jobs. The panelists represented careers across a large range of different professions. The alumni talked about their current posts in nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, private industry, and state and city-and-county governmental positions. Students interested …
