Dr. Hye-ryeon Lee Receives NCI Grant

Along with her colleagues at the Cancer Center, Dr. Lee has recently obtained a grant funding from the National Cancer Institute to study health communication behaviors of Native Hawaiians, Marshallese and Chuukese in Hawaii, and Chamorro in Guam. This new study builds upon and adds to the knowledge gained from earlier study led by Dr. Lee that documented health information seeking among Pacific islander populations in Hawaii and Guam. This two year study aims to provide new knowledge concerning the role of culture in health communication behaviors that may be generalizable to the growing number of migrant Pacific Islander populations living in the US, This new knowledge will be instrumental in the development of effective cancer prevention interventions for these populations in the future.
