Scholarship Funding and Academic Credit Available for Summer Study in Taiwan – Apply by February 15

American Councils for International Education is pleased to announce it is now accepting applications to the summer 2019 Tradition and Modernity in Taiwan Program.

The four-week program, offering academic credit in sociology and political science through Bryn Mawr College and the opportunity to apply for scholarship support from the Taiwan Ministry of Education and private donors, is designed to be an accessible and affordable option for students with all levels of background in Asian studies and Chinese language (including those just getting started).

Tradition and Modernity in Taiwan

Host: National Chengchi University – Taipei, Taiwan

Dates: July 13 – August 11, 2019 (4 weeks)

Eligibility: All students 18 and over (no Chinese language background required)

Program Features:

  • Coursework in Taiwanese culture, society, history, and politics taught in English by expert faculty
  • Regular Chinese language instruction (taught at the beginner and intermediate levels)
  • Hands-on culture classes introducing students to topics such as tai chi, calligraphy, and traditional handicrafts
  • Field trips (to historical sites, museums, temples, government offices, civil society organizations, and aboriginal communities) allowing participants further meaningful engagement with course content

Financial Aid

All U.S. students applying for AC Study Abroad scholarship funding for this program will automatically also be considered for additional Taiwan Ministry of Education-sponsored scholarships of up to $2500, awarded based on financial need and academic merit.

Past program participants have successfully applied additional outside sources of financial aid, including Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships and Gilman Scholarships to further reduce their out-of-pocket costs.   

The deadline to apply is February 15, 2019
