Chester Dabalos received his baccalaureate degree in Agricultural Chemistry from the University of the Philippines Los Banos (cum laude). He went on to earn his master’s degree in organic chemistry at the University of Cambridge, with support from the Shell Centenary Scholarship and Cambridge Overseas Trust. Preferring a tropical climate, he then moved to the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he joined the group of Dr. Kristin Kumashiro as a PhD student. His doctoral dissertation focused on studying the proline residues in elastin using solid-state NMR spectroscopy. In his free time, he studies classical languages (Hebrew and Greek) and collects rocks and shells which he sometimes utilizes to illustrate chemical concepts.
